SUBCONSCIOUS TRIO BIO

Subconscious Trio was formed in Milan in 2015. The members of the trio are Monique Chao (pianist, vocalist); Victoria Kirilova (upright bassist) and Francesca Remigi (drummer). Their repertoire includes original compositions written and arranged by the three musicians. Their music is a unique mixture of some widely various musical influences stemming from the different cultural heritages of each band member’s origin: Taiwan, Bulgaria and Italy. In their project, jazz has always represented a common ground. Yet jazz has luckily never limited the exploration of the music or integration of diverse aesthetics, such as: Bulgarian and Taiwanese traditional music, Indian music, pop and funk music. Subconscious Trio’s debut album Water Shapes was released in June 2022 by Da Vinci Publishing. The trio was one of the finalist groups of the Isio Saba Competition 2022. Within numerous performing experiences of the festivals and clubs such as JazzMI2019, PianoCity 2018, Gezmataz 2022, Lucca Jazz Donna 2022, Empoli Jazz Festival 2022, Firenze Jazz Festival 2022, Milestone, Tunnel (Wien), Zwe (Wien), Subconscious Trio is ready for more splendor music journey.

Monique Chao

Monique Chao is from Taipei,Taiwan. Currently living in Milan, Italy. Monique obtained her Bachelor and Master Degrees majored in Classical Vocals at Taipei University of the Arts. In Italy, she first obtained her second Bachelor Degree in Jazz Piano, and she continued her Master Degree in Jazz Composition. In 2021, Monique graduated with the highest mark (110/110 e lode con menzione). Her thesis is A 50 minutes Jazz Symphonic Orchestra Suite “Formosan Way” dedicated to Taiwan and she got interviewed by 27o Ore of Corriere della Sera and Nuove Radici magazine. From 2015 to 2021, she constantly travels between Italy and Taiwan for different jazz festivals, such as: JazzMi, Piano City in Milan, Taipei Jazz Festival, etc. Winner of Lugano Music Competition, Monique is one of the finalist of the prestigious Premio del Conservatorio (MI) and Premio Big Band (Barga Jazz).

Victoria Kirilova

Victoria Kirilova Victoria is a Bulgarian bass player and composer, currently living in Vienna. Her music is a mixture of various influences – from the diversity of harmonies and timbres in contemporary jazz and chamber music to the poetry and groove of traditional Bulgarian chants and odd rhythms. After graduating from the Milan Conservatory in 2017, in 2019 she completed her Master’s degree at the Music and Arts University of the city of Vienna. Victoria has various prizes and scholarships as a musician amongst which Leviev Fund, Fidelio Competition, Premio delle Arti. She has played at venues such as Bergamo Jazz, A to Jazz, JAZZMI, St Pölten, Jazzfestival, Sevilla, Novara Jazz, Jazz in Burgas, aNOther Festival, Kultursommer Vienna, Varna Summer,…

Francesca Remigi

NYC-based musician, Francesca Remigi is a multifaceted drummer, an inquisitive improviser and a visionary composer from Bergamo, Italy. Nuova Generazione Jazz 2021 (Italia-Jazz) and Top Jazz 2022 (Musica Jazz) winner, Francesca is known for her international collaborations in the avant-garde and free improv jazz scene featuring musicians such as Danilo Perez, Steve Lehman, Kris Davis, George Garzone, Nicole Glover, Val Jeanty, Immanuel Wilkins, Marion Hayden, Ellen Rowe, Bruno Chevillon, Joachim Florent and many others, with appearances at EFG London Jazz Festival 2020, Panama Jazz Festival 2022 and DC Jazz Festival 2021. Berklee Global Jazz Institute and Berklee Jazz and Gender Justice Institute alumna Francesca Remigi is also one of the founder of the independent label “Habitable Records”.
